Stripe Collaborates with Paradigm to Develop Blockchain Tempo: A Bold Move in the Cryptocurrency Race.

On August 12th, according to Fortune, online payment company Stripe is partnering with technology investment fund Paradigm to develop a new blockchain platform called Tempo. This is a project currently in "stealth mode", with an initial team of only 5 members. Notably, Matt Huang – co-founder and CEO of Paradigm – is currently also a board member of Stripe.
Based on job descriptions, Stripe is seeking marketing candidates with experience approaching Fortune 500 corporations. According to four anonymous sources, Tempo will be a Layer 1 blockchain – an independent platform not built on other blockchains – but compatible with programming languages used by Ethereum. This indicates that Stripe not only wants to expand in traditional payment fields but also aims to become a major force in Web3 infrastructure.
Although both Stripe and Paradigm declined to comment, the job postings for this project were immediately removed after Fortune's contact. This silence further fuels speculation that Tempo could be an "ace" that Stripe is preparing to launch to compete with blockchain giants like Solana or Polygon.
Stripe's Expansion Strategy into Cryptocurrency
Stripe, with a valuation of nearly $92 billion, has become one of the world's leading online payment companies by providing quick payment solutions and automated billing systems for businesses. However, in recent years, the company has continuously expanded into the cryptocurrency field.
In October 2024, Stripe spent $1.1 billion to acquire Bridge, a stablecoin infrastructure company – their largest transaction in history. Not stopping there, in June 2025, Stripe further acquired Privy, an electronic wallet developer (transaction value undisclosed). These moves indicate that Stripe is consistently pursuing a strategy of building a decentralized payment ecosystem with the ability to directly integrate blockchain into core services.
